3 Years

3! We officially have a non-toddler who is talking up a storm and curious about everything! It seems she has suddenly become a little adult, and when I look back at pictures from a year ago she looks like such a baby at 2.

3 Year Stats:
Weight: 28 lbs. (26%)
Height: 35.3” (5%)
Head: 20.5" (99%)
Teeth: ALL!
Words: Talks in complete sentences, asks questions, and tells stories. Not everything is 100% clear to other people, but most is and Mom and Dad understand everything. Her f sound is and s sound and blends are a bit of a struggle. She says some words so cute still: elegator (elevator) popsasicle (popsicle)

Favorites:
Foods: Fruit & veggies are still tops! She'll eat any fruit and most veggies (though she prefers the stalk of the broccoli).
Loves rice and pasta, steak, pizza. She's a great eater though, and will try just about anything.
Books: Tiger Can't Sleep, non fiction books, Berenstein Bears Go to the Doctor, the favorites rotate every week or so
Things to do: read, swim, play outside, go to the zoo/bird park/aquarium
Loves: animals, stuffed animals, arts and crafts, puzzles (48 pieces), music

All the talking. Suddenly, Emmeline has become a little chatterbox. I thought she was going to be a shy kid based on her first few years of life, but now I'm not so sure. She still is somewhat reserved in new situations, but she's becoming very talkative even to strangers sometimes. Perhaps this is Singapore that has done this to her, as everyone loves saying hello and asking her name. We will have a big uphill battle to teach her back in the US that all strangers aren't to be trusted, ha! She loves to retell stories of things that have happened, and we continue to be amazed at her memory. Her favorite phrases these days are "Why?" and "What you say, mama?" She continues to be intently curious about the world and often makes connections that even I am amazed at.

Emmeline has always been a very independent, determined kid since she was a baby, but it's becoming even more evident now. Around 2.5 she decided she wanted to 100% dress herself, even if that meant she sometimes became extremely frustrated. Many tears were shed not wanting help or even suggestions, but low and behold, she can dress herself every day now! Despite getting frustrated and upset when doing things, she rarely wants help and will continue trying until she accomplishes whatever she has set out to do. A great life-long skill, but sometimes a very challenging one for me now! :) On the opposite end of the spectrum, when you can get her really laughing it’s the best sound in the world!

We love to stay busy, Emmeline loves having something to do, whether its arts and crafts, an activity home, or a visit to somewhere out and about. Animals are tops in her books, and a visit to the zoo, bird park, or aquarium is always a hit. When we see animals out and about, like otters, lizards, or hornbills, it's also exciting! The parrots in the condo across from our balcony provide hours of entertainment as well. She continues to love puzzles, and 48 pieces are the challenging ones now. It's amazing to watch her figure pieces out and then remember pieces the next time she does the same puzzle.

She's pretty much stopped napping, but still sleeps pretty well at night (though currently in a phase of waking at night to pee and come in our room). She's all around happy, though, and just doesn't need as much sleep as other kids her age. (What's new?) She's a big helper and a great big sister, always helping change, feed, and keep Corabelle happy. Emmeline loves to help around the house--setting and clearing the table, changing her sheets, putting her laundry away, etc. Who is this big girl I have now??

Such a sweet, happy, funny, caring, determined 3 year old. Looking forward to a great year ahead!
