I decided to bump our updates to correspond to our check-ups at the doctor. But, man, now that I'm sitting down, a lot of development has happened in these 3 months! Emmeline continues to be a laid-back, happy baby who loves animals and people. She is more and more fun every day!
15 Month Stats:
Weight: 19 lbs. 12.6 oz (28%)
Height: 29.75" (16%)
Head: 19.5" (97% still massive compared to her little body!)
Teeth: 8 (with 2 more molars almost poked through)
Words: mama, dada, bapa (grandpas, and also maybe grandmas), baba (puppy/dog), shoos (shoes), dis (this), buh (book). She can also make the sounds of a cat, snake, and ghost when asked (14-15 mo).
Favorites:
Foods: fruit, peas, carrots, salmon, lasagna, homemade popsicles
Books: any non-fiction, I Really Like Slop (Mo Willems), Ten Orange Pumpkins, Emma
Things to do: go to MyGym, climb, listen to music, dance
Loves: bubbles, cars/trucks/airplanes, stuffed animals, pumpkins, animals, shape sorter (starting to figure it out!)
Shortly after a year, Emmeline started walking. Right around 13 months, she figured out how to get to standing without having to pull up on something, and from that point on, walking took over and she was off! She has gradually gotten faster and faster, although she's not running yet! (And I'm okay with that!)
Her communication/language skills have really taken off over the past 3 months. Although she doesn't have a ton of actual words yet, she is constantly babbling and attempting to talk to us about everything. She understands so much (really I think just about everything we say!) and is just now starting to realize that shaking her head no and yes (her whole body moves for yes) actually means something in response to what we are asking. She follows simple commands, loves to give kisses--blown and real (12-13 mo), gives high fives and hugs (13-14 mo), and can identify all of her major body parts, including toes, hands, and legs (13-15 mo).
We are still taking 2 naps a day for now. As always, she continues to not be a great napper. We have gone through several spurts the past 3 months where she fought naps, and I was convinced she was ready to switch to 1 nap, the worst of which was right around 14 months (also turned out to be a wonder week leap). Yet, when we've done 1, it's only 1-1.5 hours and/or she wakes up super early the next morning. And then after these spurts of seeming like she's ready, she's back on 2 like a champ again!
Teeth! Because Emmeline was a pretty late teether, it seems that we have either been teething or sick (2 colds and 1 super high fever with no explanation in these 3 months) almost constantly since she turned 1! She got her top 2 incisors around 13 months, and they were a doozy! Around 14 months, one of her top molars poked through, and just before 15 months, the other one poked through. The bottom 2 are not far behind and will likely pop through any day now. Yikes, that's no fun! Thankfully, her night sleep isn't affected other than waking up a bit early, and she's in a pretty good mood despite the pain. She eats next to nothing, though, when teething, so that's always a challenge. Pouches and homemade smoothie popsicles for the win!
It's been so fun watching Emmeline's personality develop over these 3 months. She is turning into a little person, who loves to imitate and is intensely curious about everything we are doing. I often find her doing things on her own that we've done together, like trying to put her shoes on, clip her toenails, or comb her hair. She has become a true toddler, who is into everything and is starting to think it's funny to not listen to mom and dad. But, overall, she's a good listener, loves to play games, and is all around just happy!
