This last month was a fun month, but also probably the most challenging one for me since newborn days! As a new parent you hear about the dreaded 4 month sleep regression, teething, and even the 10 month sleep regression, but Emmeline somehow made it through these with relatively few disruptions. And yet, no one talks about what happens at 11 months...MAJOR nap regression. Once you google it, you realize you're not crazy, but I had never heard of anyone talking about this prior to my google searches. For a week (of course, the week I was alone without Nick), I was lucky to get 45 minutes of a nap all day and my days included hours of screaming in her crib. And then, after a week, she was back to sleeping on her normal 2 nap/day schedule without fighting it. Well, for a week and then she was back to fighting it for Grandma again (but that we think was due to standing and getting ready to walk). At the same time, she also decided to go on a bit of a food strike, which was also frustrating for me!
Yet, despite these challenges, it's also been a really fun month! She has learned so many new things in the last month--pretty amazing! She is into everything; she loves to open cabinets and drawers, and had her first accident (cut finger) as a result! Luckily, she handled it like a champ! She's become very opinionated and makes it clear if she doesn't like what's happening. She hates when people leave and say bye-bye and responds with a squawk!
She still loves swimming and any type of animals, especially dogs. She's quick to point out the dog in books, and will start laughing anytime she sees a picture or a real animal. Laughing is one of her new favorite things, and she will often try to laugh just because other people are laughing! Our little non-cuddler has become a bit more cuddly, which is fun for us! She is extremely attached to her chick now, and whenever we say "let's go find chicky" she starts giggling and laughing. She babbles all the time, but still only has a few recognizable words "mama" and "buh" (book). She does, however, recognize many words, follow commands, and has started signing some words (more, all done, milk, eat). So fun how quickly she picks up on things!
She's very close to walking, but not quite there yet! She's a pro at walking holding on with only hand now, and a few days before her birthday, she started standing on her own. She can start to take a few steps, but as soon as she does she starts giggling and just falls over because she's laughing so hard! She loves to "throw" the ball (letting it roll out of her hand), put things inside buckets, stack things, and collect as many toys as she can in 1 hand. She is very persistent and will work at something (getting a cover off, getting just one more toy in her hand) for a long time until she gets it! Let's hope that continues; it's a good trait to have!
What a year it's been! Can't wait for many more! (More birthday celebration posts to come!)
