What a wonderful fall weekend spent in one of our favorite cities, Madison. Although this trip was planned a while ago, it just so happened that it landed in the middle of the 10 days Nick was back in the US between long business trips in Qatar which made it even that much more special and fun for us! The cooler temps and beautiful fall colors, along with family and friends made for a memorable weekend!
We took in many of our favorite Madison experiences, including the farmer's market, the terrace, and lunch at the Great Dane. There really isn't a farmer's market like this one, especially with the fall colors!
Saturday afternoon Grandma Jackie and Grandpa Dan watched Emmeline while Nick and I cheered on the Badgers in the big Ohio State game. We had originally thought we might buy tickets from people off the street, but we decided with 5 people, it would probably be hard to get reasonably priced tickets (and Bryan and Anna drove all the way from Eau Claire for the night to see us so we didn't want to ditch them). Although the game would have been an exciting one to watch, it didn't end in our favor, so we were happy with our choice of tailgating and watching at a bar. Still a great atmosphere and we got to meet up with lots of friends!
We had a picnic in the park to celebrate Ben's birthday where we were treated to some beautiful colors and weather! Emmeline especially loved eating an apple and playing with the dog. Also a pretty great backdrop for some family photos!
We made our last day a good one, with stops at the pumpkin patch and zoo. The pumpkin patch also had a little petting zoo/farm, which Emmeline loved! She does love her animals! After a little carrier nap, we went on a hayride past the pumpkin patch. Although it was far too muddy to actually walk around the patch, I think Emmeline was happy just on the ride with the wind blowing through her hair surrounded by people oogling over her!
The zoo was equally enthralling, and even Nick and I were very impressed! We haven't been in several years, and they've done so many upgrades since then. It definitely has to be one of the best free zoos in the US now!
Oh, and did I mention the fall colors? Oh, how we miss them! So much so that we took an excessive number of color photos! :)
A pretty great weekend introducing Emmeline to Madison. I foresee many great memories here in the future. I think she had a pretty great time too, and she was so exhausted that she slept through the plane ride home, transfer to the car, and transfer to the crib back home! Way to go, little one!
