We landed in Denver mid-afternoon Friday, where Grandma Jackie and Great-Aunt Mick promptly picked up Emmeline and her oodles of "stuff" to take her to Colorado Springs for the weekend.
This meant, Nick and I were able to head to Troy and Melissa's cabin in the mountains without worry of how she would deal with the long 4-5 hour trip each way. While she had fun with every one in CO Springs, we enjoyed ourselves in the beautiful scenery at the cabin. We spent our time relaxing, reading, hot tubbing, chatting, and counting shooting stars. We did manage one hike, and although it was much more manageable than the hike the last time we were there, it was still quite exhausting and a work out. We didn't end quite as high, but still had some pretty awesome views to the valley below!
Troy and Melissa spent a few extra days in the mountain area for a wedding, so Skee, Michelle, Nick, and I headed to Colorado Springs Sunday evening to meet Emmeline. After another delicious dinner at Odyssey Gastropub, and a quick stop at Garden of the Gods Monday morning, we headed to Denver for the rest of the week. Everything barely fit in the car!!
We didn't do a lot of planned activities, and it was wonderful! We slept in (well, those of us without babies), went for walks, and took things one day at a time. We randomly discovered that Chris Scotto DiVetta was in town, so we met him for brunch one day. We also walked around downtown quite a bit. It really is a beautiful downtown, very clean with nicely maintained buildings. Nick, Emmeline, and I had happy hour one evening at one of the restaurants downtown and took the light rail back to Littleton. Pretty slick! It reminded us of Paris and how glorious public transit is, but with the mountains in the background, this may just take the cake!
One evening we got a babysitter, who despite flakey texts, showed up and was quite good (minus being in a dead sleep when we arrived back home), and went to Red Rocks for Film on the Rocks. Sadly, there were no concerts when we were in town, so this was the next best thing. The evening started with a band (ok), a comedian (hilarious), and then the film, which was Deadpool. None of us had seen it, and despite the less-than-ideal conditions of wind and mist, we all loved it! A very fun experience, and the ad from Steuben's chicken will stick with me forever!
Skee's brother and sister-in-law, Troy and Aly, were also in town with their 19 month old, Mari, so it was fun to meet up with them a few times as well. We made two trips to Golden this time because the first time Coors was closed for tours, despite their website saying they were open. Just meant we got to eat at D'Deli twice, instead of once! :) We ate at our favorite Little Man Ice Cream again, and even Emmeline got to join in this time!
On our last full day in Colorado, Nick and Emmeline had some bonding time, while I headed up to Fort Collins with Melissa for an event called Wanderlust 108, which consisted of a 5K, 1.5 hours of yoga, and mediation. They called it a mindful triathlon, and it was a ton of fun! While I didn't run a great 5K, I was just happy to do it without stopping, given the altitude. Most people were walking so I didn't feel so bad running slowly! The yoga was fantastic and the atmosphere was the best! The setting at the foot of the mountains didn't hurt either. Definitely an event I would participate in again!
As always, Colorado never disappoints. We love the weather, the people, and the lifestyle here! And Emmeline loves the cats! ;)
