About 6 months ago, Lindsey and Justin mentioned a trip to the US in August. Our Paris group quickly aligned on a weekend for a reunion. Although we didn't plan on the hurricane, it was still a blast of a weekend hanging out with everyone again (with a few kid/dog additions!)
After much searching to find a place within reasonable driving distance for everyone and a big enough space to accommodate 6 couples and 5 babies, we finally settled on a beautiful lake house just outside of Austin. It had an infinity pool which we were all super pumped about to cool off in the August heat. Thanks to Hurricane Harvey, that didn't happen, but the babies and dads got a little bit of pool time in at least!
Since it rained most of the weekend, we spent most of the time eating and chatting inside (with out far share of hurricane news watching). It was fun to see all of the babies meeting and interacting with each other. Oh how times have changed since we were all in Paris!

Speaking of eating, John treated us to his delicious smoking skills with the most delicious brisket and ribs we have ever eaten. Like really, hand down, the best. It literally took all day (7am-8pm), but it was so worth it!!
Everyone was a little nervous heading home on Sunday since the worst of Harvey hit Houston Saturday night and Sunday; were were the only ones that ended up back in Houston. Mark and Val went to Dallas since they were going the following weekend anyway, and Maygan stayed in Austin while Kyle worked in Dallas for the week. Turns out, it was a probably a wise choice on their parts. We made it almost to our exit on 290 without any major problems other than pouring rain and gusty winds. But then, they shut down 290, and every side road we tried was literally flooding as we came to it. We would have to turn around and things that 10 minutes ago were fine, were underwater coming back. Eventually we had no choice but to head back away from Houston on 290. Thanks to some friends, we found the road north to College Station was open. We thought about spending the night there with Katie and Derek, but decided to try a northern route over to the east and then down south on 45. It worked, and we finally made it home safe and sound! Emmeline was a rockstar during all of this, not complaining and even telling us when she needed to go potty. Yep, we will pull over in any weather for her to pee! Quite an adventure to end a fun weekend!
